For 22 years, Shovell has been well-known as the M people’s percussionist and as the band member with the biggest personality. Outside of the band, he is a sought after percussionist performing alongside many of the World’s biggest DJs at the biggest clubs in Europe, Middle East, North America and Asia. He had made dozens of appearance of TV with the band but has also presented many series in his own right including ‘The Mix’, BBC1’s ‘Record Breakers’ and reported on 2 series ’45 Minutes of Football’- where he presented a section of the show called ‘Shovell’s Travels’ where he roamed around the World interviewing the best players in the World for 45 Minutes (including Francesco Toldo, Peter Schmeichel, Roberto Carlos, Jaap Stam, Mario Jardel and Rivaldo).
In 2010 Shovell moved to live in Ibiza and soon after, began performing as a celebrant after he was asked by a couple to renew their vows on the island. He found the whole experience incredibly special, amazingly joyous and completely life affirming and since that time he has been a celebrant at dozens of weddings, name blessings and two funerals-both for dogs. His main incentive in all the ceremonies he officiates at is to celebrate love, life, friendship and family. Shovell says “to be asked to hold and share the emotions of people in sometimes the most testing of times, requires a celebrant to be a great listener, writer and performer and these are three things I am happy to say I’ve been blessed with, and therefore, I’m happy to say I feel my celebrant work is something I was born to do”.
He’s fanatical about Football (a huge Arsenal supporter) and an ambassador for the homeless charity Centrepoint.
