Professor Dougal Jerram
(B.Sc., Ph.D., FGS)
Volcanologist/Geologist/Presenter

Dougal is currently Professor II (Centre for Earth Evolution and Dynamics) University of Oslo and previously Senior Lecturer, for 13 years, at University of Durham’s Earth Science Department.

Dougal’s most recent TV project was as co-presenter BBC 2’s Operation Grand Canyon with Dan Snow when Dougal and the team rowed down the Grand Canyon recreating the 1869 journey of pioneering geologist John Wesley Powell.

Expeditions/major fieldwork

Extensive experience in the field on expeditions for science and media activities. Experience in cold climbs include: Antarctica expedition to dry Valleys, Arctic Siberia, Arctic Norway, Jotenheimen Mountains Norway, Iceland. Other expedition/fieldwork areas include Ethiopia, Namibia, Iran, India, Americas, China, Australia & New Zealand.

Skills/Experience

I am an expert in Earth Sciences, covering all aspects of the Earth and landscape/physical geography, with specialisation in field geology, reading the landscape and volcanoes. I have extensive experience of expeditions both related to Earth Science and General Outdoors. High level Skiing, PADI diving qualified (including HSE diving cert 2013). Extensive travel worldwide and confident leader, on-screen presentation, Interviewer/interviewee, and action adventurer.
