In the critically acclaimed Egypt Detectives (five,
Discovery & National Geographic), Archaeologist and
Presenter Miriam Cooke travelled throughout Egypt, from
the Valley of the Kings to the pyramids at Giza, solving
compelling mysteries using a combination of cutting edge
archaeological expertise and common sense.
Miriam, a former international fashion model, was
awarded Firsts for both her BSc and her MSc, both
degrees from the Institute of Archaeology, University
College London.
An Environmental Archaeologist, specialising in the
Palaeoecology of Human societies; the study of past
humans and their interaction with their environment; she
is a trained Archaeobotanist and Zooarchaeologist (the
past presence and use of animals). Working within this
comprehensive field of archaeology, she has dealt with
diverse issues ranging from Diet and Subsistence,
Domesticated and Wild plants and animals, past Cookery
practices and preferences, Ancient Technology, Site and
Settlement reconstruction, Farming techniques,
Hunter-gatherer strategies and the studies of Present
and Past Indigenous and Aboriginal Peoples, to
Conservation issues, Environmental change and
reconstruction, Geology, soil and landscape analysis,
and much more relating to the Natural Environment.
She was awarded the Grimes prize for academic excellence
in Environmental Research for the work she has
undertaken on the Origins of Agriculture in South Asia.
Miriam has a wide range of archaeological experience
working on sites of different periods in Britain and
abroad.
She fell into presenting through her archaeological
work, although she had worked as a presenter for a
variety of beauty and music programmes during her
modelling days. Miriam's background as a model and
archaeologist makes her the perfect mixture of expert
and presenter for a broad range of genre programmes from
Archaeology, History, Wildlife and the Natural World,
Environmental and Conservation issues to Travel, Music
and Beauty.
