If you’re looking for a
DJing granddad, good news – your search is over.
Equally, if you could use a highly popular TV and radio
presenter, voiceover artist, programme divisor and
script writer – also good!
Mark has crammed a lot into a
full and varied life. He does indeed have four young
grandchildren, and is acknowledged as something of an
expert in the fields of jazz and soul, both as a
journalist and club DJ, but his presenting and
broadcasting career also displays a rich range of depth
and variety.
His TV presenting career began in earnest on Thames TV’s
arts and culture show 01 For London – territory he would
revisit in documentary work for the likes of the
National Geographic and Discovery Channels. He is also a
notoriously pithy and popular protagonist on BBC
Breakfast and News 24, as well as many Channel 4 and BBC
listing shows. Also, his work as live tv anchor has
proved to be one of his genuinely unique assets –
fronting an array of football and American Sports shows
for Channel 4 and Five for over 10 years. He is also
currently to be
seen interviewing the likes of James Corden, Phill
Jupitus and Michael McIntyre for MSN Entertainment.
On radio, Mark has worked as a breakfast show host on
KISS FM and XFM, but can now be frequently heard as a
pop cultural pundit across the BBC’s manifold stations –
contributing for Five Live, Radio 2, The Asian Network,
Radio London and BBC Wales among others. That
disembodied voice of his has also been put to use
advertising BT, Telewest and various music releases
while he can also be heard each week on the
internationally distributed magazine show World Sports.
His talents have also seen him working regularly inside
productions. He devised and wrote a series for Bravo –
My God, I’m My Dad – written scripts for an awards show
hosted by Dave Berry and The Best Of Only Fools & Horses
special, jokes for Kevin Day’s stand up and has been a
writer on such projects as a Sports Personality Of The
Year and the forthcoming ESPN sports quiz, The Umpire
Strikes Back.
He is also a dab hand at the babysitting but, as you’ll
have noticed, he’s already got his hands full with that
one.
