In a media career that
now spans 3 decades, Mark has become a genuine
broadcasting all-rounder, from arts and entertainment to
domestic and international sports. He is equally at home
anchoring live TV events and working on radio as he is
filming features and hosting programmes.
Having started in media as a music journalist, Mark
began his broadcasting career first as a VJ, then
all-round arts and entertainment presenter on proclaimed
ITV series 01 For London, which also saw him traveling
afar a field as Los Angeles, Moscow and the Edinburgh
Festival in a series of specials.
He continued to be recognized as a music, film and ‘pop
cultural’ presenter across a series of channels and
shows and is frequently seen today as a pundit on
various ‘Top 10’/listings shows and various
documentaries for National Geographic.
What’s more, he can also now be heard every Monday
afternoon as Simon Mayo’s resident TV critic on Five
Live and regular talks on that subject for BBC Breakfast
and News 24.
Sport became a part of Mark’s work repertoire around 10
years ago when he moved to New York to front 3 series of
the American Basketball NBA Show for Channel 4.
On his return, he became the most frequently seen face
of Channel Five as the front man for a wide-range of
programme’s that featured football, NFL, ice hockey and,
once again, currently the NBA. He is also co-presenter
for Gillette World of Sports, one of this country’s
best-selling international TV exports.
In parallel with his TV work, Mark has been a regular
music radio presenter, beginning with pioneering dance
station KISS FM and then working up and down the dial
for the likes of Jazz FM, XFM and Capital Gold. He has
also been used frequently as a voice-over artist, once
playing a butcher for BT and fronting a Telewest
campaign.
He has also continued to pursue his passion as a written
journalist, having contributed across the years to
magazines such as The Face, Loaded and GQ, and even
written an abundance of sleeve notes. What’s more, that
love of writing has now developed into script-writing on
various series including My God, I’m My Dad! (which he
devised) for Bravo , Best Of Only Fools & Horses for
UKTV Play and Sports Personality Of The Year for BBC1.
