Jonathan got
a law degree and started his media career in local
newspapers in Surrey before joining the BBC in 1985 ,
where he reported for Radio 4’s ‘’Today’’ on the first
Gulf War , the fall of the Berlin Wall , human interest
stories, and anything to do with music and sport. He
also contributed to, and presented , a variety of
programmes for Five Live including Up All Night and , in
2009, the Jonathan Maitland show. In the same year he
also wrote and presented a series of ‘’Profile’’
programmes for Radio 4.
In the mid 90s he moved to Breakfast News before
co-hosting ‘Watchdog’ and ‘Weekend Watchdog’ with Anne
Robinson, to audiences of more than 10 million.
He also presented a food series , ‘’The Big Dinner’’,
before moving to ITV1 .
For ITV1 he presented the BAFTA nominated ‘’House of
Horrors’’ for a decade. He is now the presenter of the
channel’s flagship current affairs show ‘’Tonight ’’ –
RTS Programme of the Year . He has also hosted three
other major ITV1 series : “The Man In The Van” ,
“Package Holiday Undercover” and the controversial late
night political talent show ‘’Vote For Me.”
He’s written five books: the best selling ‘’How To Make
Your Million From The Internet (And What To Do If You
Don’t )’’; a hugely popular biography of the late Eva
Cassidy ; “Flop Idol” ( the story of his wedding band’s
attempt to win the Eurovision Song Contest) and “Vote
for …Who? (Everything You Wanted To Know About Politics
But Were Afraid To Ask.)” . The film rights to his
latest book “How to Survive Your Mother” have been
bought by ITV. He’s also written for the UK’s leading
newspapers , including The Times , Sunday Times,
Telegraph, Guardian, Mail, Independent, Mail on Sunday,
Standard and Mirror.
He is in his 40s and has 2 step sons . He likes Scrabble
, popular music, cricket and golf and supports Charlton
Athletic but is not as boring as all this makes him
sound.
