Presenter and Journalist
New presenter on Crimewatch Roadshow on BBC1 9.15am from
Monday 7th June 2010 for 4 weeks.
Ginny is a broadcaster with natural warmth and the
ability to engage an audience, which makes her popular
with viewers. But as she proved when she joined the fast
paced world of Sky News she is also a confident live
presenter who can turn her hand to a wide range of
subjects and isn’t afraid to tackle difficult issues.
During her time at Sky News Ginny anchored the
three-hour live afternoon show ‘Sky News Today’, a slot
recognised to the busiest of the day when it comes to
breaking news. Ginny reported live on the Conservative
and Liberal Democrat leadership elections, as well as
local elections. She dealt with breaking stories from
all over the world and was on-air whilst the enormous
impact of Hurricane Katrina was becoming clear.
Ginny handled the death of Slobodan Milosevic and the
subsequent return of his body to his homeland, she
reported extensively on Britain’s biggest armed robbery
when the Securitas depot in Kent was raided - and in the
run up to the World Cup she kept the nation updated on
the fate of Wayne Rooney’s broken metatarsal!
Ginny understands the issues behind the headlines and
can deliver with authority, whilst still retaining a
light touch and friendly, down to earth manner.
Ginny is well known to viewers across the UK for her
role as the presenter of the iconic BBC ONE travel show,
‘Holiday’. For four years she reported from around the
world for the programme (and its various spin-offs),
turning her hand to everything from ice climbing and
diving to tracking wild rhino on foot in the Namibian
outback.
Ginny started her career as a trainee in the newsroom of
an Australia radio station before making her television
debut as a reporter on a news programme aimed at young
people. Ginny returned home to Manchester in her mid
twenties and worked as a presenter and reporter on a
variety of programmes for Granada Television, including
their flagship news programme ‘Granada Tonight’.
Ginny joined the BBC in 2001 when she reported on the
BBC ONE current affairs programme ‘4 x 4 Reports’.
Ginny is also an experienced print journalist and has
written extensively on travel and transport. She was the
motoring editor at the ‘News of the World’ and wrote a
weekly column, which saw her test driving all manner of
vehicles, including cars, vans and tanks! Ginny is also
an expert on motoring and transport issues, including
government policy, road user’s rights and environmental
concerns.
Ginny has also tackled the issue of climate change in a
recent 90 minute documentary for BBC TWO which took an
in-depth look at travel and transport and its
environmental impact – an idea she helped to develop.
