Dr Abigail Rokison is Director of Studies in Drama
and English at Homerton College, Cambridge where she
lectures at the University on Dramatic Literature of all
periods and Children's Literature, as well as running
seminars in theatre practice. Abigail is also Chair of
the Trustees of the British Shakespeare Association
(BSA).
Abigail began her career as a professional actor,
training at LAMDA. Acting work includes numerous roles
in theatre, film and television including Primrose
Larkin in The Darling Buds of May. Following a degree
with the Open University, she went on to take an MA in
'Shakespeare: Text and Playhouse' at the Globe Theatre/
King's College London. She completed her PhD at the
English faculty at Cambridge University in 2006 after
which became lecturer in Drama and English in the
Education Faculty in Cambridge. Her monograph,
Shakespearean Verse Speaking, was published by Cambridge
University Press in 2009. Her other publications include
chapters and journal articles on The Globe Theatre,
Propeller, David Tennant's Hamlet, University plays of
the 16th Century and Children's Literature.
She is currently acting as academic advisor on a LION/
PBS co-production - 'Shakespeare, the Greatest Stories
ever told' and artistic director of a major BSA Hamlet
event at Elsinore Castle; including the first ever
site-specific promenade production of the play. In 2009
she was invited by Charles Carlini in New York to become
an online "Shakespeare expert", providing answers to
questions posted by Shakespeare enthusiasts from all
over the world.
